Android Gemini update cuts chat list to five and merges settings
Google is pushing a server-side update that limits visible recent chats and consolidates all preferences into a single page.

Google is deploying a major interface update for the Gemini app on Android that limits the visible chat history to five items. The change arrives via a server-side push, meaning users are receiving the new layout without downloading a new version of the app.
The redesign restructures the navigation drawer. The search function has moved to the top-right corner. "New chat" remains the first entry, followed immediately by "Library." Previously, Library was located near the bottom of the menu. By restricting the initial view to five chats, Google aims to keep the drawer from feeling crowded. A "More" button now allows users to expand the list to see older conversations.
For subscribers to AI Ultra, the expanded menu lists New chat, Library, Images, Scheduled, Daily brief, Customize, Students, Videos, and Gems. The update also consolidates settings that were previously split between the account menu and a separate Gemini Settings area.
All preferences now reside on a single page. The account menu has been reduced to a smaller role, handling only account switching, feedback, and help requests. The new unified settings page begins with Manage account and Usage limits. A Preferences section follows, containing entries for Notifications, Personal Intelligence, Avatar, Task settings, Theme, Skills, Voice, Media, Device controls, Cart and orders, and Gemini Notebook. Theme is the only new entry in this section.
Two additional sections complete the settings page. Data & privacy includes Import memory, Contact info from your devices, Gemini Apps Activity, Your public links, and the Privacy Help Hub. The Get support section lists Help, Report a problem, About, and Updates.
This Android rollout follows similar changes that reached iOS, macOS, and the web app last week. Those updates launched alongside Gemini 4 Argon. Android users are now seeing the broader distribution of these interface changes.
Recent developments in the Gemini app also include Gemini Notebook becoming a Connected App. Free users are moving to "Auto" models as the app adds thinking levels. A new "Map" tool has also arrived, replacing the "/" shortcut with "@".
