A $170 solar-powered smart bird feeder from Kiwibit is now selling for $170, marking a 29 percent drop in price as early Black Friday sales begin. This discount brings the cost of high-end outdoor technology into a range that matches mid-tier competitors, making advanced wildlife monitoring more accessible for general consumers.

The price cuts affect three specific models from two manufacturers. The original Birdfy feeder with a solar panel is listed at $127, down from a higher baseline. The Kiwibit Feeder 2 with a solar roof costs $170. The third option is the Kiwibit 4K Feeder with an auxiliary solar panel, priced at $140. All three units offer 4K video recording and AI bird identification features that have become standard in the market since 2020.

A key differentiator for the Kiwibit Feeder 2 is its design. It features a 1.5-liter seed hopper that splits to hold two types of feed. This container lifts out of the main body via a top handle, allowing users to refill the unit without removing the entire feeder from its mount. The reviewer who tested the device noted that the solar roof maintained charge levels in various weather conditions during their evaluation period.

The Birdfy model offers a lower entry point. A version without the solar panel costs $110, while the solar-equipped unit sells for $127. The reviewer recommends the additional cost for the solar panel to avoid frequent indoor charging. This model supports 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi and includes a two-year warranty. The yellow version of the Birdfy costs $13 more than the discounted blue version.

The market for smart feeders has matured since 2020. Most moderately priced units now include high-resolution cameras and reliable AI identification. Users must consider installation requirements, such as the 5-7-9 rule for pole mounts, to prevent squirrel interference. While newer models like the Kiwibit Feeder 2 Pro exist at $220, the reviewer found the standard Feeder 2 to be exceptionally well-designed at the current discounted price.

Buyers should note that the Kiwibit Feeder 2 app works without a subscription, though some features are moving behind a paywall. The unit operates on 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi and comes with a one-year warranty. The alternative Kiwibit 4K Feeder shares the same camera hardware but uses a separate 3-watt solar panel, saving buyers $30 compared to the roof-integrated model.
