Notre Dame Prep has claimed its fifth Southwest Conference girls soccer title in the last six seasons. The Lancers secured the win on Sunday by beating Pomperaug 4-0 at Western Connecticut State University in Danbury.

The victory marks Notre Dame Prep’s sixth straight appearance in the SWC championship game. The team lost only once in that span, falling to Brookfield in 2024. Their current season record stands at 17 wins, two ties, and no losses.

Goalkeeper Cara Williams received the tournament MVP award after recording three shutouts. She did not allow a goal in any of the three matches played during the tournament. Notre Dame Prep outscored its opponents 11-0 across those games.

"I feel really great, I honestly couldn't do this without my teammates," Williams said. She credited her coach, Wayne Mones, and her teammates for their consistent improvement since her freshman year.

Junior forward Kolbe McCray scored two goals in the final match. Maria Rocha Reaes and Truth Houston also found the net for the Lancers. McCray scored the final goal with 50 seconds remaining in regulation.

"It is fun, being a forward and getting to score (in a championship game), I enjoy it," McCray said. She noted that her teammates move the ball well and consistently find her in open space.

Pomperaug reached its first SWC championship game since 2018. The Panthers advanced by defeating Newtown in a penalty shootout in the semifinal round. Their season record is 14 wins, three losses, and two ties.

Coach Wayne Mones credited the team's defensive stability for the season's success. "That has been our staple all year, we have only allowed four goals on the season," Mones said. He praised Williams and the defensive unit for limiting scoring opportunities.

Notre Dame Prep will now focus on the CIAC Class LL tournament. The team aims to reach its first state final since 2023.
