Samsung is preparing to release one final foldable for the year in China, a move that places a premium price tag on the market just days after the current date. Leaker Ice Universe reports that the Galaxy W27 will launch on October 29. The device is not a new hardware design but a rebranded version of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, tailored specifically for the Chinese market.

Images shared by the leaker show a glossy blue back panel accented with gold trim around the triple-camera array. This aesthetic choice continues a yearly tradition where Samsung releases exclusive, elaborately packaged variants of its top foldables for China. These W-series phones have historically carried a higher cost than their global counterparts, reflecting the localized luxury positioning.

The decision to base the W27 on the Z Fold 8 Ultra rather than the standard Galaxy Z Fold 8 is notable. The standard model features a new shape that has been well-received by customers, yet Samsung is sticking with the wide-format Ultra for this release. This aligns with a growing trend in China, where wide foldables are gaining traction. Competitors like Huawei have offered this form factor for years, and Xiaomi’s latest device mirrors the same dimensions.

The timing of the leak coincides with increased industry focus on Samsung’s foldable line. Samsung has stated that the Galaxy Z Fold 8 is a strong seller and noted that the iPhone Duo has drawn attention to the category. Analysts predict that foldable display shipments will rise by 44% in 2026 as these wide formats become more common. The company has also pushed Android 17 updates to several Galaxy devices recently.

In 2024, Samsung deviated from its usual China-only pattern by releasing the Galaxy Z Fold 6 Special Edition more broadly. That move served as a precursor to the major design shift seen in the Galaxy Z Fold 7. For 2026, however, the company appears to be reverting to its standard practice of keeping the top-tier variant exclusive to one region.

If the leaked schedule holds, the W27 will be the last of Samsung’s new foldables to hit the market this year. The company has several additional models planned for the following year, but the W27 concludes the current cycle of hardware releases.
