Anthropic Launches Claude Duet to Automate Professional Workflows
A new AI agent designed for businesses aims to handle background tasks and data management, distinguishing itself from consumer-focused personal assistants.

Anthropic has officially entered the crowded field of personal productivity tools with the release of Claude Duet, a new application designed to automate complex tasks for professionals and small businesses. The launch positions the company directly against a growing roster of competitors, including Meta Muse, OpenAI Dots, Hark, Instinct, Grok Bot, and Fo, as the industry shifts its focus from simple chatbots to autonomous agents that can execute work on behalf of users.
The new tool is currently available in research preview for Pro and Max customers on iOS, Android, and the web via Claude.ai, though access is limited to those on a waitlist. By targeting the professional sector, Anthropic is signaling a strategic pivot toward business use cases, a trend that has become increasingly prominent among its rivals in the artificial intelligence space.
Anthropic has drawn a clear line between Claude Duet and consumer-oriented agents like Instinct. The company notes that Duet is not intended for handling personal errands or booking travel tickets, nor does it provide a live visual feed of its browser activity. Instead, the agent is engineered to manage professional workflows, such as generating daily briefings, constructing data dashboards, and recommending specific actions based on the user’s existing information.
Like other advanced agents in the market, Claude Duet operates by executing tasks in the background through its own virtual machine. This allows users to continue their day without interruption while the AI processes information. The system is designed to return to the user only when it requires explicit approval for a next step, ensuring that the human remains in the loop for critical decisions.
The application is built on the Claude Opus 5.5 model and boasts a robust connectivity infrastructure. It can interface with more than 6,000 connectors and plug-ins available in the Claude Marketplace. This extensive integration capability allows the agent to interact with a wide array of third-party services, enhancing its utility for small businesses that rely on diverse software ecosystems.
One of the more significant features of the new release is its ability to perform online purchases. Through integrations with Stripe’s Link digital wallet and Shopify’s Shop Pay, Duet can execute transactions on a user's behalf. However, the company has emphasized that sensitive actions, particularly those involving payments, will always require user verification before proceeding. The agent is deliberately restricted from trading securities or transferring funds between different accounts, a boundary set to maintain user trust.
Security and data privacy remain central to the design of Claude Duet. To address concerns about information leakage, Anthropic has introduced a new classifier that scans each message sent to or by the agent. By default, the system is configured to reject requests that involve highly sensitive data, such as credit card numbers or government-issued identification, unless the user explicitly permits the exchange.
The timing of this launch reflects a broader market evolution. While early AI products focused on answering questions, the current landscape is defined by agents that take initiative. Meta, for instance, has released a version of its Muse assistant specifically tailored for small businesses with deeper app connections, while OpenAI’s Dots integrates tightly with professional tools. Anthropic’s entry with Claude Duet adds another major player to this business-focused cohort, intensifying competition for enterprise attention.
As the waitlist fills, the success of Claude Duet will likely hinge on its ability to balance autonomy with oversight. By focusing on background processing and proactive recommendations, Anthropic is betting that professionals will welcome an AI that manages the mundane aspects of their digital workflow, allowing them to focus on higher-level strategic tasks without constant supervision.
