Jennifer Lawrence stated that she confronted film crew members after discovering unapproved individuals present during a nude scene. She discussed the incident during an appearance on the "Call Her Daddy" podcast, identifying it as a defining moment in her career.
Lawrence described her reaction to the situation as coming down hard on the crew. She explained that the issue was a matter of principle regarding set standards. If established protocols are ignored, she argued, the precedent creates difficult choices for newer talent.
The actress highlighted the perspective of an 18-year-old unknown arriving on set. That performer would face a choice between speaking up and risking a reputation for being difficult, or allowing unapproved people to view them naked. Lawrence said she felt it was important to explain to the crew why the situation was not acceptable to protect future cast members.
The conversation originated from a question about whether Lawrence has grown more comfortable advocating for herself. She noted that flexibility is part of the job, citing director Lynne Ramsay asking her to cut her hair and dye it platinum blonde for "Die My Love." Despite that flexibility, she said she speaks up more now because she is aware of her position in the industry.
Lawrence has previously addressed her experience on "Die My Love," where she worked opposite Robert Pattinson without an intimacy coordinator. On the "Las Culturistas" podcast, she said she felt very safe with Pattinson and described him as not being "pervy." She noted that the two mostly talked about their kids and relationships, and that he was deeply in love with his partner, Suki Waterhouse.
She added that she would have wanted an intimacy coordinator if there had been awkwardness over whether Pattinson thought she liked him. Lawrence observed that many male actors take offense if a woman does not want to sleep with them, leading to a kind of punishment. She stated that Pattinson was not like that.
Regarding her comfort with nudity, Lawrence said she is not sensitive about it and wanted Ramsay to have total artistic freedom. She noted that being pregnant removed much of her vanity anxiety. While making "Die My Love," she was working 15 hours a day and simply tired, unlike her preparation for "No Hard Feelings" where she was dieting and avoiding carbs. She also recalled being sent a close-up image showing cellulite and being asked if the team should touch it up. Her answer was no, adding, "That's an ass."
