With three weeks remaining before the midterm elections, Elon Musk’s personal political committee, America PAC, received a massive financial injection to support Republican candidates. A pre-election report filed with the Federal Election Commission on Thursday evening revealed that Musk transferred more than $76 million to the group during the first two weeks of October.
The PAC deployed nearly $43 million of those funds immediately, leaving it with almost $47 million in cash for the final stretch of the campaign. The Texas Senate contest absorbed the largest share of this new spending. America PAC invested $15.2 million in the race, a sum that is double the amount spent in that state over the entire summer. Of that total, $12.4 million funded attacks on Democratic candidate James Talarico, while $2.8 million promoted Republican challenger Ken Paxton.
Daily filings indicate that the group continued its offensive against Talarico after the initial report, directing another $9.1 million toward ads attacking the Democrat. This brings the PAC’s total spending against Talarico this cycle to nearly $28 million. The figure represents roughly 40 percent of all funds America PAC has spent supporting or opposing candidates. The group also shifted its strategy toward digital platforms, spending $11.4 million on online ads in the two-week period, an amount close to its combined spending on mail and texting.
Musk has personally engaged in the race through social media, where he frequently criticizes Talarico. On Wednesday, he posted on X that there is something deeply wrong with Talarico, calling him a creep and claiming without evidence that the senator would vote to take away voters' kids. Earlier in the month, Musk amplified a false claim that Talarico had been treated at a mental health facility. Talarico responded to the latest attack by stating that there is something deeply wrong with a political system that allows one trillionaire to buy his own personal US Senator.
An Emerson College poll of 1,000 likely Texas voters, conducted from October 17 to 19, shows the race remains competitive. Talarico leads Paxton by two points, with 48 percent of support against 46 percent, a margin within the poll's three-point error range.
The election outcomes carry direct implications for Musk’s business interests. If Democrats win the House, committee chairs have indicated they will investigate Musk’s role in the Department of Government Efficiency and his federal contracts. Representatives Sam Liccardo, Jimmy Panetta, and Ro Khanna recently wrote to the White House demanding an investigation into federal funding awarded to Musk’s businesses, including restrictions on SpaceX’s Starshield satellite service in Ukraine.
According to an analysis of FEC filings, Musk has given more than $445 million to Republican political groups this election cycle. More than $165 million of that total has flowed to America PAC since July, making him the largest known individual donor in the midterms.
