The City of New Rochelle will open Anderson Plaza to the public on Thursday, October 29, for a Halloween-themed Plaza Night. The event runs from 6 to 9 p.m. and features a backup date of October 31 in case of bad weather. The gathering is a joint effort by the city, the New Rochelle Downtown Business Improvement District, and the New Rochelle Chamber of Commerce.

Programs include a Thriller-inspired dance performance by Total Package, sponsored by the Downtown BID, alongside other Halloween entertainment. A costume contest is scheduled for 8 p.m., with prizes supplied by local businesses. A Mobile City Hall will be stationed on-site to provide information on municipal services and resources.

City Manager Wilfredo Melendez stated the goal is to bring residents together and support local commerce. “Plaza Night at Anderson is an opportunity to bring people together, create engaging experiences in our public spaces and support the businesses that make our downtown special,” Melendez said.

Anne Gold, Executive Director of the New Rochelle Downtown Business Improvement District, noted the event kicks off a larger weekend of activities. “Plaza Night at Anderson kicks off a spooktacular weekend in downtown New Rochelle,” Gold said. She encouraged attendees to download the Halloween Bash map at newrochelledowntown.com to find other local specials.

Downtown businesses will offer special discounts during the event to encourage visitors to explore local shops. The city aims to use the public space to boost community participation and establish the downtown area as a destination for residents and visitors alike.
