Jay-Z will perform at the Super Bowl halftime show on February 14 at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California. The NFL, Apple Music, and Roc Nation announced the decision on Monday night, ending a period of public speculation regarding the rapper's role in the event.
Roc Nation has partnered with the NFL since 2019 to help produce the league's entertainment presentations. Commissioner Roger Goodell said his only condition for the agreement was that Jay-Z perform on stage whenever the moment felt right to him.
Jay-Z noted in a statement that his career spans thirty years, from his 1996 debut album to this current milestone. He described the performance as a dream come true that continues his journey in music and culture.
The announcement follows a recent concert series celebrating the 30th anniversary of Reasonable Doubt. The tour included sold-out shows at Yankee Stadium, London, and Paris, concluding with a weekend finale at SoFi Stadium. Guests at the recent Inglewood shows included Blue Ivy, Scarface, John Legend, DJ Khaled, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, and Too $hort.
Jay-Z, born Shawn Carter, has won 25 Grammy Awards and holds 89 nominations. He is the second most nominated artist in Grammy history, behind his wife Beyonce. His career also includes a 2017 induction into the Songwriters Hall of Fame and a 2021 entry into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Roc Nation will executive produce the upcoming halftime show, with Hamish Hamilton serving as the director. Recent halftime performances have received critical recognition, including seven Emmy awards for Bad Bunny's 2024 performance and a music direction award for Kendrick Lamar's 2025 show.
The featured performer will join a list of past artists who have headlined the event. Jay-Z's involvement marks a shift from his previous role as a behind-the-scenes producer and advisor for the league's entertainment presentations.
