The Tampa Bay Buccaneers defeated the Atlanta Falcons 16-0 on Sunday in a game defined by rain and a historic ground attack. Baker Mayfield did not complete a single forward pass in the loss, marking the first time a team has finished with zero completions in the Super Bowl era since the Buffalo Bills in 1974.

The Buccaneers recorded 324 rushing yards, a new franchise record. Bucky Irving carried the ball 27 times for 170 yards and one touchdown. Kenny Gainwell added 140 yards on 25 carries. Chase McLaughlin kicked three field goals to keep his perfect season record at 19 for 19.

Mayfield attempted three passes and completed none. He played in heavy rain for most of the afternoon. This was his second game back after missing three weeks with a fractured thumb. The previous team record for rushing yards was 283, set by Doug Martin in a 45-17 win over the Philadelphia Eagles in November 2015.

The Falcons struggled to respond. Michael Penix Jr. threw four interceptions while completing eight of 24 passes for 125 yards. Bijan Robinson was held to 76 yards on 19 carries. Both teams now sit with a 3-5 record.

The Bills beat the New York Jets 16-12 on September 29, 1974, in the only other instance of a zero-completion game. That matchup remains the only other time in Super Bowl history that a team did not complete a pass.

The Buccaneers will look to extend their winning streak in their next scheduled appearance. The Falcons remain in fifth place in their division.
