Kylian Mbappé scored his 12th league goal of the season to help Real Madrid defeat Racing Santander 3-0 on Sunday. The result keeps Madrid in third place in La Liga, three points behind the leader Barcelona and one point behind second-place Atletico Madrid.

Mbappé converted a penalty in the 11th minute after being fouled. He was involved in Jude Bellingham's goal midway through the first half. Summer signing Yan Diomandé added the final goal with a powerful strike before halftime.

In Italy, Lazio moved to the top of Serie A after beating Cagliari 2-1. Lazio capitalized on Inter Milan's loss to AC Milan on Saturday to take a three-point lead at the top of the table. The victory required a late effort from striker Andrea Pinamonti.

Pinamonti entered the match as a second-half substitute. He scored the winning goal in the 83rd minute and removed his jersey in celebration. Cagliari had taken the lead in the 21st minute through M'Bala Nzola. Gustav Isaksen equalized for Lazio late in the first half.

The Spanish league observed a moment of silence before all matches this weekend to honor the victims of a deadly train crash in Spain. In other Spanish action, Getafe defeated Sevilla 3-1. Forward Martín Satriano set up the equalizer for Enes Ünal and then scored himself. Orel Mangala added a late third goal for Getafe.

Mbappé recently faced backlash after comments in which he referred to Mao Zedong as a dictator. He apologized for the remarks on Tuesday after losing brand deals with Chinese companies. The incident occurred one day after he finished second to Harry Kane in the men's Ballon d'Or voting.

On Tuesday, Juventus will host Napoli in Italy. In England, Arsenal will play at Liverpool on Sunday, aiming to move three points clear at the top of the Premier League.
