A Pelham Manor resident has backed Ryan Kurtz and Chris Dlutowski for village trustee, centering her support on their plan to launch a mobile application for resident requests. Tara Weishaupl, who lives at 39 Sherwood Avenue, argues that the digital tool offers a practical improvement over current communication methods while preserving existing options.

The proposal has faced resistance from other candidates and village leadership. At a recent candidate forum, a Republican candidate objected to the app, citing potential legal or insurance liabilities. Village leaders have also argued the tool is unnecessary, noting that residents can simply call or email the village manager, who is always available. Weishaupl counters that the technology has been in use for more than 15 years and is widespread in other communities.

Weishaupl points to a specific incident in 2023 to illustrate the current system's limitations. She contacted the Manor office repeatedly by phone regarding a safety issue near her home. After receiving no response, she sent a registered letter through the post office. She argues that an app would allow residents to tap a button to report hazards or make requests in real time, giving the village more data without removing the option to call or email.

The endorsement addresses a common misconception that a mobile app would allow residents to dictate village priorities. Weishaupl explains that the app is a reporting mechanism, not a decision-making tool. The village manager and staff would still determine what tasks get completed and in what order, mirroring the process used for phone calls and emails. She notes that the tool could also free up staff time for issues requiring personal attention.

Kurtz and Dlutowski have framed their approach around identifying opportunities rather than obstacles. During the forum, Dlutowski specifically referenced the app as an example of this mindset. Weishaupl describes this as a positive, functional approach to governance that adds everyday benefits to the community.

The endorsement letter serves as a public statement of support for the pair running on the same line. Weishaupl asks readers to join her in backing the candidates who she believes will protect the village's existing strengths while implementing new digital tools.
