DADA, an artist-owned music and art venue in Ridgewood, New York, is hosting a Halloween event on Saturday, October 31, featuring four live electronic artists. The show, titled 'Night of the Living Sound,' begins with doors opening at 9:30 p.m. and the musical performance starting at 10 p.m. Dinner and drinks are available during the event.
The venue is located at 60-47 Myrtle Ave. in Queens. Co-owner Neda Zahraie said the event aims to provide an accessible option for residents in a city where Halloween activities can become costly. "In a city like New York, where Halloween can get expensive quickly, we want this to be an accessible, no-pressure way to experience something truly special without the hefty ticket fees," Zahraie told QNS.
The lineup includes PYRON, Omar and Khorshid, Tim O’Keefe, and DeWinter. PYRON creates ethereal atmospheres using layered vocals and a Korg MS2000 virtual analog synthesizer. Omar and Khorshid perform Arabic psychedelia mixed with driving rhythms and distorted melodies. Tim O’Keefe provides cinematic sound and audio art. DeWinter, featuring Jeremy Loucas, offers deep underground beats inspired by nature and New York City. Loucas is a three-time Grammy-winning producer and engineer.
Jenn Pyron, the artist behind PYRON, first performed at DADA last year through the 'Environs' series hosted by Harrison Adams. She returned in September and met Zahraie during that performance. "I was deeply moved by the community that DADA actively cultivates and hoped to be invited back again," Pyron said. She described the venue as a place where artists can connect in real life.
The Halloween event is part of a larger wave of seasonal activities in the neighborhood. Myrtle Avenue is hosting the Myrtle Monster Mash on October 31 at 2 p.m. at the Right Store, located at 59-17 71st Ave. That free outdoor festival features crafts, jewelry, a DJ, story time, live performers, and costume contests for kids, adults, and pets. Organized by Prince Peacock and the Myrtle Business Improvement District, the event precedes a tradition of shops handing out candy on Myrtle Avenue starting around 3:30 p.m.
DADA also participates in the neighborhood tradition by distributing 450 pieces of healthy candy to young trick-or-treaters. Zahraie expects more children to visit this year than in previous years. Before the evening concert, the venue hosts a Family Halloween Dance Party from 5 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. A seasonal pasta dish is added to the regular menu for that specific event, accompanied by a rock and roll-inspired playlist.
New York City’s fifth annual 'Trick-or-Streets' initiative supports these local celebrations. The program features over 180 pedestrian-friendly open streets and plazas hosting Halloween and harvest events through October 31. The city has distributed 75,000 pieces of candy to participating event organizers to facilitate trick-or-treating in car-free spaces across the five boroughs.
Tickets for 'Night of the Living Sound' are available through Eventbrite. The event allows attendees to attend in costume or without one, focusing on the live musical experience. The show concludes the venue's Halloween programming, which spans from the afternoon family dance to the late-night electronic performance.
