White Plains Transport Group: 53,000 Rides in 15 Years
The nonprofit reached national accreditation and took over regional routes after competitors closed.

TRA Group, Inc. has provided more than 53,000 free rides to medical appointments since 2013. The White Plains-based nonprofit serves older adults and people with low vision who need transportation to maintain independence. The organization marked its 15th anniversary this month while expanding its reach across the region.
The group operates a volunteer-driven network that connects riders with healthcare providers and community resources. In 2025, TRA absorbed the caseloads of RideConnect and New Rochelle Cares after those programs ceased operations. The organization added F.I.S.H. Hastings-on-Hudson to its service network in 2026. These additions required TRA to recruit new volunteers and manage a sharp rise in demand for accessible transport.
TRA recently completed an 18-month review process to achieve national accreditation from Inform USA. The organization is the primary standard-setting body for community navigation and referral services in the United States. The accreditation validates TRA’s methods for service delivery and community partnerships. It also confirms the reliability of the information the nonprofit provides to families.
Leaders at TRA cited the closure of regional programs as the driving force behind their recent growth. The organization stated that the transitions demonstrated a growing need for a strong community safety net. Volunteers continued to support riders during the period of expansion, ensuring that essential trips to doctors and specialists were not delayed.
The group will host a commemorative event on Saturday, November 7, from noon to 3 p.m. The gathering takes place at the Mansion on Broadway at 139 N. Broadway in White Plains. The theme is “15 Who Paved the Way.” Organizers will honor 15 individuals who served as founders, leaders, or advocates over the past decade and a half.
Tickets and raffle entries are currently available for the anniversary celebration. Participants can enter a drawing for a seven-night stay at a villa in Tuscany, Italy. The prize covers accommodations for up to four people but excludes airfare and meals. Sponsorship packages and journal advertising slots are also open to the public.
Interested guests can visit my-tra.org to purchase tickets or learn more about sponsorship opportunities. The event aims to recognize the people who helped establish the organization’s mission. It also serves as a platform to connect current supporters with the history of the group.
