More than 1,600 hospitals worldwide now use the artificial intelligence model that TIME magazine has named one of its Best Inventions of 2026. The company behind the technology, Aidoc, announced the selection in a statement released on Saturday. The model, known as CARE, was chosen from the Medicine and Health category of the annual list.

Aidoc, founded in 2016 by Elad Walach, Michael Braginsky, and Guy Reiner, has spent a decade developing an AI platform that analyzes medical imaging and clinical text. The system was designed to alert doctors to potentially life-threatening conditions in real time. Before CARE, the company developed separate AI models for specific conditions. The new architecture allows Aidoc to expand the range of diseases it can identify without building a new model for each one.

The selection process for the 2026 list evaluated inventions based on originality, effectiveness, ambition, and impact. TIME’s panel noted the technology’s ability to detect a wide range of potentially serious medical findings. Other technologies featured on the same list include Anthropic’s Claude Code and Lovable.

When the system detects a potentially urgent finding, it flags the examination so medical teams can prioritize it for review. This functionality aims to improve diagnostic safety by acting as an additional layer of review in routine procedures. The AI solutions have received clearance from the US Food and Drug Administration and are currently used in more than 150 healthcare systems in the United States.

Elad Walach, Aidoc’s CEO and co-founder, described the model as a major growth driver for the company. “Medical foundation models that can detect hundreds of diseases and significantly improve diagnostic safety are among the developments that will affect us all,” Walach said. He added that the company is approaching a reality where AI serves as an additional pair of eyes in almost every medical diagnosis.

The company has raised more than $500 million since its founding. Investors have included General Catalyst, TLV Partners, Magma Emerge, Square Peg, and SoftBank’s Vision Fund 2. Nvidia’s venture capital arm, NVentures, also contributed to the company’s capital.

Aidoc closed its most recent funding round in April 2026. The round totaled $150 million and was led by the growth investment division of Goldman Sachs. The CARE model is designed to continue improving the accuracy of the company’s algorithms while broadening its detection capabilities.
