Apple TV subscribers can now hear Formula 1 races in Dolby Atmos, with the upgrade debuting at the United States Grand Prix this weekend. The first race to feature the spatial audio format began on Friday, October 23.

Apple and Dolby Laboratories announced the partnership earlier this month. They stated that Formula 1 coverage on Apple TV would gain Dolby Atmos support starting with this Grand Prix weekend. No previous Formula 1 race has been broadcast in this audio format.

Apple describes the new sound design as placing viewers in the center of the race weekend. The company says the audio captures specific elements such as team radio, commentary, engine noise, on-track battles, and pit lane activity. Apple also notes that combining Dolby Atmos with Dolby Vision provides enhanced visual clarity and color for fans watching the event.

The race schedule continues through the weekend. Practice 2 takes place on Friday, October 23, at 5 p.m. ET. On Saturday, October 24, Practice 3 begins at 1:30 p.m. ET, and qualifying follows at 5 p.m. ET. The main race is scheduled for Sunday, October 25, at 4 p.m. ET.

Apple will host a live screening of the Sunday race at its Domain NORTHSIDE store in Austin, Texas. The same location hosted Apple CEO John Ternus and retail chief Deirdre O'Brien on Friday for the launch of the iPhone Duo.

Apple Maps now includes a detailed experience of the Circuit of The Americas in Austin. The update features turn numbers, grandstand locations, and 3D landmarks to help fans navigate the venue.

Apple TV is available for $14.99 per month or through the Apple One bundle. The streaming service also carries titles including Ted Lasso, Severance, The Studio, The Morning Show, Shrinking, and Silo.
