A 23-year-old man from Givatayim was detained on Saturday night after allegedly shoving a bodyguard assigned to former Prime Minister Naftali Bennett. The incident occurred during a rally in Tel Aviv where Bennett advocated for a commission of inquiry into the events of October 7.
The suspect, whom sources described as being under the influence of alcohol, attempted to breach the security perimeter surrounding Bennett. He shouted the slogan “Only Bibi,” a phrase used to support Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, while moving toward the former leader. Guards instructed him to stop, but he continued to push forward.
When one of the officers pushed the man back to maintain the barrier, the suspect shoved the guard in return. The security team quickly subdued the individual and held him at the park until police arrived. Officers took the man into custody and transported him to a station for questioning.
An initial review of the suspect’s records showed no prior criminal history. Investigators are currently examining the specific circumstances of the altercation. The event took place in a public park where Bennett was speaking to supporters.
Bennett held the office of Prime Minister from June 2021 to June 2022. The clash occurred days before the 2026 Knesset elections. IDF soldiers cast their ballots at military polling stations earlier this week, marking the start of the voting process.
