Wyatt Kaiser scored at 7:17 in the third period to break a tie and give the Chicago Blackhawks a 2-1 victory over the Los Angeles Kings on Tuesday. The win snapped a three-game losing streak for Chicago, which improved to 3-4-0 on a seven-game homestand.
Kaiser, playing for his first goal of the season, beat Los Angeles goaltender Anton Forsberg with a shot through the legs from the left circle. It marked the 11th goal of his career in 187 games. Roman Kantserov had earlier provided the equalizer in the second period, scoring a team-high fifth goal in his rookie campaign.
Chicago overcame a power-play deficit to take the lead. The Kings held a 1-0 advantage after Samuel Helenius poked home a pass from Jared Wright at 2:31. However, penalties on Joel Armia opened the ice, allowing Connor Bedard to set up Kantserov at 16:40. Chicago successfully killed a double-minor penalty against defenseman Sam Rinzel later in the game.
Spencer Knight made 25 saves to earn the win. Forsberg also stopped 25 shots in the loss. The Blackhawks are 4 for 39 on the power play this season, a 10.3% conversion rate that trails their 16.9% mark from last year.
Los Angeles scratched captain Drew Doughty and forward Corey Perry after they played in a 6-3 win over the New York Rangers on Monday. Chicago played without defenseman Bowen Byram, who is out with an upper-body injury. The Kings completed a 3-2-0 road trip with Tuesday's loss.
Both teams return to action on Thursday. The Kings will host the Ottawa Senators, while the Blackhawks travel to face the Detroit Red Wings.
