Latvia's National Armed Forces located the wreckage of a drone in the Alūksne district on Saturday, October 24. The discovery ended a week of uncertainty following an unexplained noise that sounded like an explosion.

The military stated the unmanned aerial vehicle likely entered Latvian airspace on October 18. Initial search efforts by the armed forces and the State Police began immediately after the report but were halted after two days. Officials determined they lacked sufficient information to pinpoint the crash site at that time.

No civilians were injured in the incident, and the military reported that no civilian infrastructure suffered damage. An investigation into the event is currently underway, alongside an internal review to assess how the situation unfolded.

The incident follows a similar event in neighboring Lithuania. On Sunday, October 18, Lithuanian authorities found drone wreckage in Juodžionys, a village in the Pasvalys district. Lithuania indicated the drone entered its airspace from Poland.

Lithuanian Prime Minister Mindaugas Sinkevičius said the drone contained explosives. Heorhii Tykhyi, a spokesman for Ukraine's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, attributed the Lithuanian incident to Russian electronic warfare measures and expressed regret for the event.
