The White House announced that US First Lady Melania Trump secured the truce. The statement described a humanitarian disaster as currently unfolding in the occupied area. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov confirmed that Russia agreed to the ceasefire to facilitate the mission.
Zelenskyy noted that talks have continued at various levels for some time. He said Ukraine would do its part while counting on American mediation to work. The general staffs of both countries announced the details of the agreement on Friday evening.
Dmytro Lubinets, Ukraine's Parliamentary Commissioner for Human Rights, confirmed that the humanitarian operation will take place on 29 October under the ceasefire. The timeline allows for the two-day window needed to clear the designated area before aid trucks enter.
