Lindsay Clancy, a Connecticut woman charged with the first-degree murder of her three children, has remained under constant observation at a Massachusetts state hospital for three years, her civil attorney stated this week.
Rosemary Scapicchio, Clancy's civil attorney, spoke in a video interview with CBS Mornings that aired on Monday. The clip was posted to social media on Sunday. Scapicchio said Clancy has been on a one-on-one suicide watch at the hospital in Tewksbury since she was admitted there.
"They can't leave her alone because they're concerned that she's going to kill herself," Scapicchio said. "They've had her in a one-on-one suicide watch for over three years."
The attorney described the daily burden on her client. Scapicchio said Clancy must live with the knowledge that she hurt her children. "If given the opportunity, I have no doubt in my mind that she would take her own life," Scapicchio added.
Clancy, who grew up in Wallingford, is accused of strangling Cora, 5; Dawson, 3; and Callan, 8 months, at their home in Duxbury, Mass., on January 24, 2023. The deaths occurred while their father, Patrick Clancy, was out of the house.
The defense team argues Clancy was suffering from postpartum psychosis and was not criminally responsible. The prosecution contends she planned the killings and described her as controlling and manipulative.
