Milwaukee Brewers manager Pat Murphy described the New York Yankees as a 'horses-t' team moments after his club won its first World Series title. The remark came during a celebration in Tampa, Florida, following a Game 5 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays.

Murphy spoke directly to first baseman Jake Bauers, who recorded the final out of the series. The manager told the pending free agent that he would become a rich man. He urged Bauers to remember his time with the Yankees, where players acted as if they were competing for themselves. Murphy said the current Brewers roster played the way that team once did.

Bauers had a standout 2026 season, his third year with Milwaukee. He hit a career-high 26 home runs and drove in 86 runs. At 31 years old, the player had spent the previous six seasons moving between four different clubs. His time in New York during 2023 included 84 games where he batted .202 with a .693 on-base plus slugging average.

The Yankees finished that 2023 campaign with a record of 82 wins and 80 losses. They missed the postseason, an outcome that occurred only once during manager Aaron Boone's nine-year tenure. New York has now gone 17 years without a championship, a drought that has drawn jokes from rivals in recent years.

Other players have mocked the Yankees' defensive play. Los Angeles Dodgers reliever Joe Kelly noted that the team's scouting report listed their inability to make routine plays. He said the Dodgers paid attention to every detail and that their superstars played hard rather than acting lazy. Dodgers utility man Chris Taylor described the Yankees' performance in a 2024 World Series loss, where they squandered a five-run lead in the fifth inning behind three errors.

The Brewers are scheduled to begin the 2027 season in the coming months. Bauers is expected to enter free agency this winter. He was named the National League Championship Series MVP after batting .286 with six runs batted in during Milwaukee's four-game sweep of the Dodgers.
