Police confirmed Sunday morning that at least four people died and 15 others were injured in three distinct shootings that took place in the Deep Ellum district. The incidents occurred in rapid succession between 12:00 a.m. and 1:30 a.m. early Sunday, according to Dallas Police Chief Daniel Comeaux.
Investigators are currently working to determine if the three events are linked. Comeaux stated that detectives are examining the scenes to understand the mechanics of each attack and to identify any connections. "At this time, we have no information that they are related, but we're still doing an investigation to try to figure that out at this time," the chief said.
The violence followed a pattern seen earlier this year in the entertainment district. On May 5, gunfire during Cinco de Mayo celebrations injured five people along Commerce Street. In late summer, two separate incidents occurred within a week. On August 14, two people were shot along Canton Street. Then on August 23, a man was arrested after shooting three people on Elm Street in the early morning hours.
The Halloween weekend violence marks the fourth time this year that multiple people have been injured by gunfire in Deep Ellum. The district saw a surge in visitors for the holiday, and police had planned for a heavy presence to manage the crowds. Comeaux noted that officers were fully staffed throughout the night to account for the expected traffic and activity.
One officer provided critical care to an injured victim and successfully revived them, according to the police chief. Comeaux described a scene where an officer was less than two blocks from the gunfire when they heard the shots. The officer immediately ran toward the source of the noise to assist.
"We looked at the plan. We knew it was Saturday night. We knew it was Halloween, so we were staffed properly," Comeaux said. He emphasized that the quick response helped prevent further chaos in the crowded area.
Authorities have arrested at least one individual in connection with one of the incidents. Investigators are currently questioning the person in custody along with other witnesses. Police have not yet released the names of those in custody or announced formal charges. Officers are working to tie the detained individual to the broader series of shootings.
Comeaux urged residents and visitors who were in Deep Ellum overnight to submit any video or photographs they captured. Investigators are actively collecting media from social platforms and private devices to reconstruct the timeline of events. "We need all the videos you have," Comeaux said, noting that even footage that seems irrelevant could help confirm details.
The police department continues to process evidence from the three locations. No suspects have been publicly identified beyond the one person currently being interviewed. The investigation remains active as officers gather testimony and review the submitted media.
