A security guard shot a man in the chest outside a Waldorf bar on Halloween night, killing him as the homicide investigation continues.
According to the Charles County Sheriff's Office, first responders arrived at The Cut Bar & Restaurant in the 2500 block of Business Park Court shortly after 1:45 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 31. Reports indicated a shooting and a stabbing had occurred inside and near the establishment.
Investigators stated that the victim, a 41-year-old local man identified as Strong, got into a dispute with another patron. During the fight, Strong pulled out a knife and threatened the other man. A private security guard assigned to the venue stepped in to control Strong's hand and the weapon.
The confrontation did not end with the guard's intervention. Strong stabbed the other patron once in the abdomen. As Strong moved to strike again, the guard opened fire. The bullet hit Strong once in the chest.
Strong walked outside and collapsed in the parking lot. Police officers arriving on the scene found him holding the knife. Despite attempts to save his life, he was pronounced dead where he fell. The man who was stabbed received treatment for injuries that medical staff did not consider life-threatening.
Detectives are reviewing the incident as of Nov. 1. The sheriff's office plans to present the case to the State's Attorney's Office for further review.
