Social Security recipients scheduled to receive their benefit on Wednesday, Nov. 11, will get their money on Tuesday, Nov. 10, instead. The Social Security Administration (SSA) shifted the deposit date forward by one day to avoid the Veterans Day federal holiday.

This change applies specifically to beneficiaries whose payment date is tied to the second Wednesday of the month. Under the standard calendar, that date falls on Nov. 11. Because Nov. 11 is a federal holiday, the SSA delivers funds on the preceding business day.

The group affected by the early payment consists of individuals whose birth dates fall between the first and 10th of any month. A person born on March 7, for example, typically receives benefits on the second Wednesday of each month. In November, that individual will see the deposit land on Nov. 10.

The SSA clarifies that the payment date depends on the birth date of the worker whose earnings record supports the benefit. For most retirees, this is their own birthday. However, spouses or survivors receiving benefits based on another person’s work history may use that worker’s birth date to determine their payment schedule. Checking only the recipient’s birthday can lead to confusion about the exact deposit date.

The early deposit does not change the amount of the monthly benefit. It is not an extra payment, nor does it alter the approved benefit amount. It simply moves the standard monthly disbursement forward by 24 hours.

Other payment schedules for November remain unchanged. Recipients whose reference birth dates fall between the 11th and 20th will receive their benefits on Wednesday, Nov. 18. Those with reference dates between the 21st and 31st will be paid on Wednesday, Nov. 25.

Beneficiaries who have received Social Security payments since before May 1997, or those who also receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI), will receive their funds on Tuesday, Nov. 3. This group operates on a separate calendar and is not affected by the Veterans Day adjustment.
