Real Madrid defeated Barcelona 2-1 on Sunday night.
The match took place at Camp Nou.
Kylian Mbappe scored both goals for the visitors.
His brace took his total to 14 goals this season.
It also brought his career count for Real Madrid to 100.
Mbappe joined the club from Paris Saint-Germain in 2024.
He is 27 years old and currently the second-highest scorer in La Liga.
The win stopped Barcelona from extending its winning streak.
Barcelona had won its previous nine league games.
A victory would have broken a record set by Real Madrid in 1968-69.
That record stands for the best start in Spanish top flight history.
Barcelona now sits atop the league table on 27 points after 10 matches. Real has 24 points after 10 matches. Atletico Madrid sits between them with 25 points. The gap between the two clubs is three points. More than a quarter of the season remains. Real has won five consecutive matches. These include three league games and two Champions League matches. Earlier in the month, Real lost to Real Betis and Atletico Madrid. Barcelona suffered this result after losing to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League days earlier. This is the second straight loss for Hansi Flick's team. The win gives Real Madrid the edge in the all-time head-to-head record. Real now has 107 wins in El Clasico matches. Barcelona has 106. Jose Mourinho returned to manage Real Madrid this season. He had not won a league title since leading Chelsea in 2014-15. Real Madrid had gone two seasons without a trophy before hiring him. Mourinho said his team plays to win the championship, not just single matches. He made a knee slide celebration after the final whistle. He is 63 years old. The Ballon d'Or ceremony takes place on Monday in London. Mbappe is considered a leading contender for the award. He won the La Liga and Champions League top scorer titles last season. He also won the World Cup Golden Boot. He holds the record for the most goals in World Cup history.
